Inspired by the amazing men and women of the Olympics, I thought i’d try my hand at a bit of weightlifting this evening, with dad and my brother! Not sure what all the exercises are called, but I:
- bench-pressed 16kg 58 times
- 200 leg extensions of 10.3kg then 30 of 13.6kg
- 20 leg bicep curls of 10.3kg
- 10 lateral raises of 4.6kg in each arm
- 50 bicep curls of the same
- ten push-ups to end with!
I’m usually more of a cardiovascular ‘athlete’; I run and walk a lot, I used to do cross country, endurance running and sprinting for my school and I love cycling too, and am not averse to the odd bit of aerobics (i’m a gold medallist swimmer…not olympic, obviously), so all this weightlifting was really new territory for me (apart from when I had to buff up to play Jesus in Godspell, 2007, and that was mainly protein shakes and swimming).
Lately i’ve not been able to do all that so much because i’ve been struggling with pain in my knees (my medial ligaments are starting to fray in both knees) and it’s been very bad recently, but those Leg extensions today have made the surrounding muscles and ligaments feel stronger already! I feel very fulfilled :)
Not had this good a workout since the cadets and I am knackered! ARRRGH, LACTIC ACID! Feel great though. Gonna try and make a habit of it. Great end to a wonderful day, with my beautiful girlfriend Emma!
Of course, if you add the gratuitous amounts of rough sex with Emma earlier today, I should be the size of a fucking tank by now…
